1. Pass

2. Tag

Operating principle

Tag and Pass allow you to manage an object’s security without an account, access to the Ajax app, or knowing the password — all it takes is activating a compatible keypad and putting the key fob or card to it. The security system or a specific group will be armed or disarmed.

To quickly and securely identify users, KeyPad Plus uses the DESFire® technology. DESFire® is based on the ISO 14443 international standard and combines 128-bit encryption and copy protection.

Tag and Pass usage is recorded in the events feed. The system administrator can at any time revoke or restrict the access rights of the contactless identification device through the Ajax app.

Tag and Pass can work with or without user binding, which affects the notification texts in Ajax app and SMS.

Tag and Pass can work with several hubs at the same time. The maximum number of hubs in the device memory is 13. Keep in mind that you need to bind a Tag or Pass to each of the hubs separately through the Ajax app.

The maximum number of Tag and Pass devices connected to a hub depends on the hub model. At the same time, the Tag or Pass does not affect the total limit of devices on the hub.

One user can bind any number of Tag and Pass devices within the limit of contactless identification devices on the hub. Keep in mind that devices remain connected to the hub even after all keypads have been removed.

Sending events to the monitoring station

The Ajax security system can connect to the monitoring station and transmit events to the CMS via SurGard (Contact-ID), SIA (DC-09), ADEMCO 685, and other proprietary protocols. A complete list of supported protocols is available here.

When a Tag or Pass is bound to a user, arm and disarm events will be sent to the monitoring station with the user ID. If the device is not bound with the user, the hub will send the event with the device identifier. You can find the device ID in the Status menu.

Adding to the system

Before adding a device

1. Install the Ajax app. Create an account. Add a hub to the app and create at least one room.
2. Make sure that the hub is on and has access to the internet (via Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi, and/or mobile network). You can do this in the Ajax app or by looking at the hub logo on the front panel — the hub lights white or green when connected to the network.
3. Make sure the hub is not armed nor updates by looking at its status in the Ajax app.
4. Make sure a compatible keypad with DESFire® support is already connected to the hub.
5. If you want to bind a Tag or Pass to a user, make sure that the user’s account has already been added to the hub.

How to add a Tag or Pass to the system

1. Open the Ajax app. If your account has access to multiple hubs, select the one to which you want to add a Tag or Pass.
2. Go to the Devices  tab.
Make sure the Pass/Tag Reading feature is enabled in at least one keypad settings.

3. Click Add Device.
4. From the drop-down menu, select Add Pass/Tag.
5. Specify the type (Tag or Pass), colour, device name, and name (if necessary).
6. Click Next. After that, the hub will switch to the device registration mode.
7. Go to any compatible keypad with Pass/Tag Reading enabled, activate it — the device will beep (if enabled in the settings), and the backlight will light up. Then press the disarming key . The keypad will switch to the access device logging mode.
8. Put Tag or Pass with the wide side to the keypad reader for a few seconds. It is marked with wave icons on the body. Upon successful addition, you will receive a notification in the Ajax app.

If the connection fails, try again in 5 seconds. Please note that if the maximum number of Tag or Pass devices has already been added to the hub, you will receive a corresponding notification in the Ajax app when adding a new device.

Tag and Pass can work with several hubs at the same time. The maximum number of hubs is 13. Keep in mind that you need to bind devices to each of the hubs separately through the Ajax app.

If you try to bind a Tag or Pass to a hub that has already reached the hub limit (13 hubs are bound to them), you will receive a corresponding notification. To bind such a Tag or Pass to a new hub, you will need to reset it (all data from tag/pass will be erased).

States

The states include information about the device and its operating parameters. Tag or Pass states can be found in the Ajax app:

1. Go to the Devices  tab.
2. Select Passes/Tags.
3. Select the required Tag or Pass from the list.

Setting up

Tag and Pass are configured in the Ajax app:

4. Go to Settings by clicking on the  icon.

Binding a Tag or Pass to a user

When a Tag or Pass is linked to a user, it fully inherits the rights to manage the user’s security modes. For example, if a user was able to manage only one group, then the bound Tag or Pass will have the right to manage only this group.

User rights and permissions are stored in the hub. After being bound to a user, Tag and Pass represent the user in the system if devices are bound to the user. Therefore, when changing user rights, you do not need to make changes to the Tag or Pass settings — they are applied automatically.

To bind a Tag or Pass to a user, in the Ajax app:

1. Select the required hub if there are several hubs in your account.
2. Go to the Devices  menu.
3. Select Passes/Tags.
4. Select the required Tag or Pass.
5. Click on the  to go to settings.
6. Select a user in the appropriate field.
7. Click Back to save the settings.

Temporarily deactivating a Tag or Pass

The Tag key fob or the Pass card can be temporarily disabled without removing them from the system. A deactivated card cannot be used to manage security modes.

If you try to change the security mode with a temporarily deactivated card or key fob more than 3 times, the keypad will be locked for the time set in the settings (if the setting is enabled), and corresponding notifications will be sent to the system users and to the security company monitoring station.

To temporarily deactivate a Tag or Pass, in the Ajax app:

1. Select the required hub if there are several hubs in your account.
2. Go to the Devices  menu.
3. Select Passes/Tags.
4. Select the required Tag or Pass.
5. Click on the  to go to settings.
6. Disable the Active option.
7. Click Back to save the settings.

To reactivate Tag or Pass, turn on the Active option.

Resetting a Tag or Pass

Up to 13 hubs can be bound to one Tag or Pass. As soon as this limit is reached, binding new hubs will only be possible after completely resetting Tag or Pass.

Note that resetting will delete all settings and bindings of key fobs and cards. In this case, the reset Tag and Pass are only removed from the hub from which the reset was made. On other hubs, Tag or Pass are still displayed in the app, but they cannot be used to manage the security modes. These devices should be removed manually.

To reset a Tag or Pass, in the Ajax app:

1. Select the required hub if there are several hubs in your account.
2. Go to the Devices  menu.
3. Select a compatible keypad from the device list.
4. Click on  to go to settings.
5. Select the Pass/Tag Reset menu.
6. Go to the keypad with pass/tag reading enabled and activate it. Then press the disarming key . The keypad will change to the access device formatting mode.
7. Put the Tag or Pass to the keypad reader. It is marked with wave icons on the body. Upon successful formatting, you will receive a notification in the Ajax app.

Use

The devices do not require additional installation or fastening. The Tag key fob is easy to carry with you thanks to a special hole on the body. You can hang the device on your wrist or around your neck, or attach it to the key ring. The Pass card has no holes in the body, but you can store it in your wallet or phone case.

If you store a Tag or Pass in your wallet, do not place other cards next to it, such as credit or travel cards. This may interfere with the correct operation of the device when attempting to disarm or arm the system.

To change the security mode:

1. Activate KeyPad Plus by swiping over it with your hand. The keypad will beep (if enabled in the settings), and the backlight will light up.
2. Put the Tag or Pass to the keypad reader. It is marked with wave icons on the body.
3. Change the security mode of the object or zone. Note that if the Easy armed mode change option is enabled in the keypad settings, you do not need to press the security mode change button. The security mode will change to the opposite after holding or tapping Tag or Pass.

Using Tag or Pass with Two-Stage Arming enabled

Tag and Pass can participate in two-stage arming, but cannot be used as second-stage devices. The two-stage arming process using Tag or Pass is similar to arming with a personal or general keypad password.

Maintenance

Tag and Pass are battery-free and maintenance-free.

Operating principle

DoubleButton is a wireless hold-up device, featuring two tight buttons and a plastic divider to protect against accidental presses. When pressed, it raises an alarm (hold-up event), transmitted to users and to the security company’s monitoring station.

An alarm can be raised by pressing both buttons: one-time short or long press (more than 2 seconds). If only one of the buttons is pressed, the alarm signal is not transmitted.

All DoubleButton alarms are recorded in the Ajax app’s notification feed. The short and long presses have different icons, but the event code sent to the monitoring station, SMS, and push notifications do not depend on the pressing manner.

DoubleButton can only operate as a hold-up device. Setting the type of alarm is not supported. Keep in mind that the device is active 24/7, so pressing the DoubleButton will raise an alarm regardless of the security mode.

Event transmission to the monitoring station

The Ajax system can connect to the CMS and transmit alarms to the monitoring station in SurGard (Contact ID), ADEMCO 685, SIA (DC-09) and other proprietary protocols. A complete list of supported protocols is available at the link.

Connection

Before starting connection

1. Install the Ajax app. Create an account. Add a hub to the app and create at least one room.
2. Check if your hub is on and connected to the Internet (via Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi, and/or mobile network). You can do this in the Ajax app or by looking at the Ajax logo on the front panel of the hub. The logo should light with white or green if the hub is connected to the network.
3. Check if the hub is not armed and does not update by reviewing its status in the app.

How to connect DoubleButton to a hub

1. Open the Ajax app. If your account has access to several hubs, select the hub to which you want to connect the device.
2. Go to the Devices tab  and click Add device.
3. Name the device, scan or enter the QR code (located on the package), select a room and a group (if group mode is enabled).
4. Click Add — the countdown will begin.
5. Hold any of two buttons for 7 seconds. After adding DoubleButton, its LED will flash green once. DoubleButton will appear in the list of hub devices in the app.

DoubleButton can be connected to one hub only. When connected to a new hub, the device stops sending commands to the old hub. Added to a new hub, DoubleButton is not removed from the device list of the old hub. This must be done manually in the Ajax app.

States

The states screen contains information about the device and its current parameters. Find the DoubleButton states in the Ajax app:

Setting up

DoubleButton is set up in the Ajax app:

Alarms

A DoubleButton alarm generates an event notification sent to the security company’s monitoring station and system users. The pressing maner is indicated in the event feed of the app: for a short press, a single-arrow icon appears, and for a long press, the icon has two arrows.

To reduce the probability of false alarms, a security company can enable the alarm confirmation feature.

Note that the alarm confirmation is a separate event that does not cancel the alarm transmission. Whether or not the feature is enabled, DoubleButton alarms are sent to a CMS and to security system users.

Indication

DoubleButton flashes red and green to indicate command execution and battery charge status.

Application

DoubleButton can be fixed on a surface or carried around.

How to fix DoubleButton on a surface

To fix the device on a surface (e. g. under a table), use Holder.

To install the device in the holder:

1. Choose a location to install the holder.
2. Press the button to test whether the commands are delivered to a hub. If not, choose another location or use a radio signal range extender.
When routing DoubleButton through a radio signal range extender, keep in mind that it does not automatically switch between a range extender and a hub. You can assign DoubleButton to a hub or another range extender in the Ajax app.

3. Fix Holder on the surface using the bundled screws or double-sided adhesive tape.
4. Put DoubleButton into the holder.

How to carry DoubleButton

The button is easy to carry around thanks to a special hole on its body. It can be worn on the wrist or neck, or be hanged on a keyring.

DoubleButton has an IP55 protection index. Which means that the device body is protected from dust and splashes. And a special protective divider, tight buttons, and the need to press two buttons at once eliminate false alarms.

Using DoubleButton with alarm confirmation enabled

Alarm confirmation is a separate event that a hub generates and transmits to a CMS if the hold-up device has been activated by different types of pressing (short and long) or two specified DoubleButtons have transmitted alarms within a specified time. By responding to confirmed alarms only, a security company and police reduce the risk of unnecessary reacting.

Note that the alarm confirmation feature does not disable the alarm transmission. Whether or not the feature is enabled, DoubleButton alarms are sent to a CMS and to security system users.

How to confirm alarm with one DoubleButton

To raise a confirmed alarm (hold-up event) with the same device, you need to perform any of these to actions:

1. Hold both buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds, release, and then press both buttons again briefly.
2. Simultaneously press both buttons briefly, release, and then hold both buttons for 2 seconds.

How to confirm alarm with several DoubleButtons

To raise a confirmed alarm (hold-up event), you can activate one hold-up device twice (according to the algorithm described above) or activate at least two different DoubleButtons. In this case, it doesn’t matter in what way two different DoubleButtons were activated — with a short or long pressing.

Maintenance

When cleaning the device body, use products suitable for technical maintenance. Do not use substances containing alcohol, acetone, gasoline, or other active solvents to clean DoubleButton.

The pre-installed battery provides up to 5 years of operation, considering one pressing per day. More frequent use may decrease battery life. You can check the battery status at any time in the Ajax app.

If DoubleButton cools down up to -10°C and below, the battery charge indicator in the app can show low battery status until the button heats up to above-zero temperatures. Note that the battery charge level is not updated in the background, but only by pressing DoubleButton.

When the battery charge is low, users and a security company monitoring station receive notification. The device LED smoothly lights up red and goes out after each button pressing.

2. Indicator lights
3. Button mounting hole

Operating principle

Button is a wireless panic button that, when pressed, transmits an alarm to users, as well as to the security company’s CMS. In Control mode, Button allows you to control Ajax automation devices with a short or long press of a button.

In panic mode, the Button can operate as a panic button and signal about a threat, or notify of the need for auxiliary help, or inform about the intrusion, fire, gas alarm, or leakage. You can select the type of alarm in the button settings. The text of alarm notifications depends on the selected type, as well as the event codes transmitted to the central monitoring station of the security company (CMS).

The Button is equipped with protection against accidental press and transmits alarms at a distance of up to 1,300 m from the hub. Please be aware that the presence of any obstructions that impede the signal (for example, walls or floors) will reduce this distance.

Button is easy to carry around. You can always keep it on a wrist or a necklace. The device is resistant to dust and splashes.

Button has the Battery charge auto-check option. When enabled, the system once a day checks the battery state of the button. If the auto-check is disabled, the battery state updates only when the device is pressed.

Adding to the system

Before adding a device

1. Install the Ajax app.
2. Log in to your account or create a new one.
3. Select a space or create a new one.
   What is a space
   How to create a space
The space functionality is available for apps of such versions or later:

   • Ajax Security System 3.0 for iOS;
   • Ajax Security System 3.0 for Android;
   • Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.0 for iOS;
   • Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.0 for Android;
   • Ajax PRO Desktop 4.0 for macOS;
   • Ajax PRO Desktop 4.0 for Windows.
4. Add at least one virtual room.
5. Add a compatible hub to the space. Ensure the hub is switched on and has internet access via Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and/or mobile network.
6. Ensure the space is disarmed, and the hub is not starting an update by checking statuses in the Ajax app.

Connecting to the hub

1. Open the Ajax app and select the space where you want to add the button.
2. Go to the Devices  tab and click Add device.
3. Name the device, scan its QR code (located on the package) or enter it manually, select a room and a group (if group mode is enabled).
4. Click Add and the countdown will begin.
5. Hold the button for 7 seconds. When the Button is added, the LEDs will flash green once.

For detection and pairing, the Button must be located within the hub radio communication zone (on the single protected object).

The connected button will appear in the list of hub devices in the application. Updating the statuses of the device in the list does not depend on the polling time value in the hub settings. Data is updated only by pressing the Button.

The Button only works with one hub. When connected to a new hub, the button Button stops transmitting commands to the old hub. Note that after being added to the new hub, the Button is not automatically removed from the device list of the old hub. This must be done manually through the Ajax application.

States

Button states can be found in the Ajax app:

Settings

You can adjust the device parameters in the settings section:

Operating indication

Button status is indicated with red or green LED indicators.

Use cases

Panic Mode

In the panic button mode, Button can call security or help, as well as alert of an emergency by activating sirens and sending other users a notification in the app. In the Button settings, you can select one type of alarm out of eight:

• Intrusion
• Fire
• Auxiliary alarm
• Panic button
• Gas alarm
• Malfunction
• Leakage
• Custom (not sent to the security company monitoring station)

The type of alarm determines the event code sent to the security company monitoring station (CMS) and the notification text received by the user. This ensures the accurate response to the threat.

Note that in Panic Mode, pressing the Button will raise an alarm regardless of the system security mode.

Button can be installed on a flat surface or carried around. To install on a flat surface (for example, under the table), secure the Button with double-sided adhesive tape. To carry the Button on the strap: attach the strap to the Button using the mounting hole in the main body of the Button.

Control Mode

Button can be used to control the automation devices. In Control mode, the Button has two pressing options: short and long (the button is pressed for more than 3 seconds). These pressings can trigger the execution of an action by one or more automation devices: Relay, WallSwitch, or Socket.

To bind an automation device action to a long or short press of a Button:

1. Open the Ajax app and go to the Devices  tab.
2. Select Button in the list of devices and go to settings by clicking the gear icon .

3. Select the Control mode in the Operation mode section. Click on the actual Button device to save the changes
4. Go to the Scenarios menu. Click Create Scenario if you are creating a scenario for the first time, or Add Scenario if scenarios have already been created in the security system.

5. Select a pressing option to run the scenario: Short press or Long press.

6. Select the automation device to execute the action.

7. Enter the Scenario Name and specify the Device Action to be executed by pressing the Button.
   • Switch on
   • Switch off
   • Switch the state
The Device Action setting is unavailable when configuring a scenario for the automation devices operating in pulse mode. During the scenario execution, such devices will close/open the contacts for a set time. The operating mode and pulse duration are set in the automation device settings.

8. Click Next. The scenario will appear in the list of device scenarios.

Mute Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm

By pressing the Button, the interconnected fire detectors alarm can be muted (if the corresponding operating mode of the button is selected). The reaction of the system to pressing a button depends on the state of the system:

• The Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm have already propagated — by the first press of the Button, all fire detectors sirens are muted, except for those that registered the alarm. Pressing the button again mutes the remaining detectors.
• The interconnected alarms delay time lasts — the siren of the triggered Ajax fire detector is muted by pressing.

Placement

Button can be fixed on a surface or carried around.

How to fix Button

To fix Button on a surface (e. g. under a table), use Holder.

To install the button in the holder:

1. Choose a location to install the holder.
2. Press the button to test whether the commands can reach the hub. If not, choose another location or use a radio signal range extender.

Functional elements

1. Alarm button

   • Ajax Security System 3.0 for iOS;
   • Ajax Security System 3.0 for Android;
   • Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.0 for iOS;
   • Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.0 for Android;
   • Ajax PRO Desktop 4.0 for macOS;

Operating Principle

GlassProtect uses a sensitive electret microphone to detect the sound of glass breaking, consisting of a low-frequency hit sound and high-frequency crashing sound of glass shatters. Such two-stage glass break detection decreases the risk of false triggering.

If triggered, GlassProtect immediately transmits the alarm signal to the hub, activating the sirens (if connected) and notifying the user and security company.

Connecting

Detector Connection to hub

Before starting connection

1. Following the hub user guide, install the Ajax app. Create the account, add the hub, and create at least one room.
2. Switch on the hub and check the internet connection (via Ethernet cable and/or GSM network).
3. Make sure that the hub is disarmed and does not update by checking its status in the Ajax app.

Pairing the detector with hub

1. Select Add Device in the Ajax app.
2. Name the device, scan or type the QR code (located on the detector body and packaging), and select the location room.

3. Tap Add — the countdown will start.
4. Switch on the device.

For detection and pairing to occur, the detector should be located within the coverage area of the wireless network of the hub (at a single protected object). The connection request is transmitted for a short time: at the moment of switching on the device.

If the device failed to pair (LED blinks once per second), switch it off for 5 seconds and retry. The detector connected to the hub appears in the list of devices in the app. The update of the detector statuses in the list depends on the device ping interval set in the hub settings (the default value is 36 seconds).

Connecting to Third-Party Systems

To connect the detector to a third-party central unit using the uartBridge or ocBridge Plus integration module, follow the recommendations in the user manual of the respective device.

7. Click Back to save the settings.
8. Set up the required siren.

Indication

Functionality testing

The Ajax system allows conducting tests for checking the functionality of connected devices.

The tests do not start immediately but within a period of 36 seconds when using standard settings. The test time start depends on the settings of the detector ping interval (the paragraph on “Jeweller” settings in hub settings).

Detector functionality testing

Having defined the location of the detector and having fixed the device with the bundled adhesive tape, test the detection zone.

Testing the detector

Hit the glass with your fist without breaking it. If the detector catches a low-frequency sound, the LED blinks. Simulate a high-frequency glass shattering sound for 1.5 seconds after the first hit with a special tool or hitting a glass with a metal object. After recognizing the sound, the detector switches off the LED indicator for a second.

Switch on/off all the appliances that usually operate in the room: generators, air conditioners, etc. If this triggers the detector, try to change the sensitivity or relocate GlassProtect.

Use the sensitivity level, at which the detector correctly passes both test stages and does not respond to any devices operating in the room.

Installing the device

Selecting the Location

The location of GlassProtect depends on its remoteness from the hub, and obstacles hindering the radio signal transmission: walls, floors, large objects inside the room.

If the signal level is low (one bar), we cannot guarantee the stable operation of the detector. Take all possible measures to improve the quality of the signal. At least, move the detector: even a 20 cm shift can significantly improve the quality of signal reception.

If after moving the device still has a low or unstable signal strength, use a radio signal range extender.

Do not install the detector:

1. outside the premises (outdoors);
2. nearby sirens and speakers;
3. nearby any metal objects or mirrors causing attenuation or screening of the signal;
4. at any places with fast air circulation (air fans, open windows or doors);
5. inside premises with the temperature and humidity beyond the range of permissible limits;
6. closer than 1 m to the hub.

GlassProtect recognizes glass break at a distance of up to 9 meters. Its microphone should be positioned no more than 90 degrees relative to the window(s).

Make sure that any curtains, plants, furniture, or other objects do not overcover the microphone opening.

If there are curtains on the window, place the detector between them and the window, for instance, at the window side jamb. Otherwise, curtains can mute the glass break sound, and the detector will not be triggered.

Detector installation procedure

Before installing the detector, make sure that you have selected the optimal location that follows the guidelines of this manual!

1. Fix the SmartBracket attachment panel using bundled screws. If you use any other attachment tools, make sure that they do not damage or deform the attachment panel.
Use double-side adhesive tape only for temporary attachment of the detector. The tape runs dry with time, which can cause falling, false triggering, and detector malfunction.

2. Put the detector on the attachment panel. When the detector is fixed in SmartBracket, it blinks with LED, signaling that the tamper is closed.

If LED doesn’t blink after fixing in SmartBracket, check the status of the tamper in the Ajax app and then the fixing tightness of the panel.

If someone detaches the detector from the surface or takes it off the attachment panel, the security system notifies you.

Connecting a Wired Detector

A wired detector with an NC (normally closed) contact type can be connected to GlassProtect using the in-built terminal clamp.

We recommend installing the wired detector at a distance no longer than 1 meter to GlassProtect. Longer wire length increases the risk of its damage and reduces the quality of communication between the detectors.

To put out the wire from the detector body, break out the plug:

If the connected wired detector is triggered, you receive the notification.

Maintenance

Check the operational capability of the detector regularly.

Clean the detector body from dust, spider web, and other contaminants as they appear. Use soft dry napkin suitable for tech equipment.

The pre-installed battery ensures up to 7 years of autonomous operation (with the 5 minutes ping interval by the hub). If the detector battery is low, the system notifies the user, and the LED indicator smoothly lights up and goes off if a glass break is detected or the tamper is triggered.
